purpose
As a business you have the possibility to bring new purpose, meaning and relevance to how you are being, by embedding giving right at the core of what you do.
We are part of a global community of businesses doing exactly this. Between us we have created hundreds of millions of impacts, and not one of us could have done it alone.
It’s the small things you do that matter!
In your business as it is in life, it’s rarely the big things you do that make the impact. More often it’s the small things, because small things compound. A little done every day builds. That is the part of the human experience many people miss.
The big stuff is mainly for show and PR. Admittedly, when you continuously and consistently do the small things well, you deserve the bragging rights of the big impact they collectively create.
Business giving is no different!
Forget about the big cheques to whichever charity. Find organisations to connect your business giving to, through ‘micro-transactions’, so that every time you sell something, someone is helped. Start where you live: in your own community, your own city, your own region, and your own country.
What could that look like?
- If you run a cafe. Every time someone buys a cup of coffee, you might put a meal in front of someone in your own city who would otherwise go without.
- If you are an optometrist. Every time someone buys a pair of glasses, you might give an eye test and a pair of frames to someone nearby who can afford neither.
- If you are an accountant. Every time a client pays their monthly bill, you might provide the means for someone in your own community to start a business.
- If you are a consultant or coach. Every time someone uses your services, you might make books, materials, facilities or services available to children and parents who choose to homeschool, or to follow other modalities that sit outside the tax-funded system.
All of this and much more is possible, and despite what most people think it is actually very affordable.
It is better to donate to and through organisations with low or next to no admin and overheads, and that earn some of their own income rather than living on the next donation. It doesn’t have to be most of it, just enough that what you give builds on work they are already funding themselves.
And while tax deductibility is a ‘nice-to-have’, giving is not about tax deductions. It is about impact and what you bequeath.
