IT Fear & Fifedoms
IT organisations, internal and consultants, are like people in yesteryear jobs that have been superseded by innovation, a more educated society or ironically technology. They find themselves irrelevant and grasp to keep hold of their client’s technology requirements instead of acknowledging that the landscape has changed and coming up with ways that they can continue to add value in the new world and remain relevant to their clients, enabling them, not subjugating them to their personal brand of digital dictatorship.
Businesses require value based solutions for their business functionality. That is what they should pay for. The value you add, and when you add value instead of push digitised widget narcotics, they will reward you handsomely for a very long time.
The reality of most tech organisations is that they will embed themselves deeply in the client organisation. They foster fear amongst users and especially management that they, the tech guru, must be there to make the system safe and keep it running. It takes brave business owner to see through the bullshit and decide to change the organisational paradigms.
